About Our School
Dear Reader-
The 2020-2021 school year marked the 21st year of Odyssey Charter School serving as a free public school option. We had a successful year partnering with the staff and community to ensure our students earned an exceptional educational experience. As a school, we recognize the role we play in helping your children reach their full potential, and we do not take that responsibility lightly. We truly believe all students can be successful, and this belief drives the work we do on a daily basis.
The mission of Odyssey is to develop active learners who discover their interests and broaden their knowledge in an engaging environment of academic excellence. Through a workshop model that emphasizes student choice and emotional well-being, students collaborate with peers, teachers and community members. Our thoughtfully designed curriculum promotes social responsibility that impacts the larger community. Through intentional focus and deliberate planning, students experienced caring, engaging, and individualized teaching that facilitated learning at a developmentally appropriate pace that enabled for a both supportive and challenging classroom experience.
The diverse community of students, parents, teachers, and staff are a key feature of Odyssey. The richness of this diversity enhances students’ learning through their varied lived experiences, shared understandings of the world, and deepening of differing perspectives and worldviews.
As a result of the COVID-19 global pandemic, our campus spent the final four months of the 2019-2020 school year in a distance learning format where all students, faculty, and staff were safer at home. Given the abrupt nature of this shift to distance learning, paper learning packets were provided to all students, and campus resources were reviewed and reallocated to offer students Chromebook devices, laptops for teachers, and shifted our meal services to a weekly meal pickup. The impact of COVID-19 in the lives of students, families, faculty, and the broader community required all stakeholders to adjust and reframe our educational, and social-emotional practices to prioritize the health and safety of all members of our extended community.
The experience of the spring of 2020 distance learning model, coupled with parent and faculty surveys, and extensive collaborative efforts with other educators and educational leaders were used to establish the Odyssey Charter Schools Reopening Taskforce which was charged with establishing a robust, engaging, and thoughtful distance learning plan that guided the launch of school for the fall 2020 term.
In the upcoming years, Odyssey remains committed to offering its students, faculty, and families a welcoming learning community where everyone belongs and can thrive.
Best Regards-
