About Our School
Dear Monte Vista Families,
I am very excited to begin the 2016/2017 school year and would like to welcome all returning and new students and parents to Monte Vista Elementary School. Our staff is filled with dedicated personnel who are committed to ensuring that your children achieve academic success in a caring and supportive environment. Monte Vista’s goal is to provide the high-quality instruction, tools, and support necessary to help our children realize their dreams for the future.
The home and school connection are vital to the future success of our students, and we are committed to developing those relationships. From the front office to the classroom, we welcome frequent communication and encourage your involvement and input into your children's educational experience. We have many activities and committees in which we encourage parents to participate. Parents are encouraged to become school partners on our School Site Council and our Parent Teacher Organization. Throughout the year, we look forward to hosting school and community events such as Picnic on the Playground, Family Science Investigation Night, Common Core Math Night and Literacy Night.
Parents, students, and school staff are essential partners as we work together to create and maintain a positive and respectful school culture. We encourage students to develop and demonstrate individual responsibility and self-discipline as we put a stop to school bullying. The rules and procedures of the school are adhered to closely in order to facilitate a school culture of safety, fairness, and respect for all members of the educational community.
Monte Vista’s commitment to high academic standards has enabled our school to show continuous progress. We have been recognized by the California Business for Education Excellence as an Honor Roll School for 2011, 2012 & 2014. We accomplished this recognition because Monte Vista stood well above the other schools in getting students to grade level proficiency and beyond after extensive analysis of student achievement data for every public school in California.
During the 2016 school year, Monte Vista received a Gold Ribbon Distinction from the State of California based on our model practice in math in developing students’ conceptual understanding. We also received a Title 1 Academic Achievement Award for significantly closing the achievement gap. With our school’s 2013 API at 824, Monte Vista continues to be recognized as a “high performing” school.
During the 2016/2017 school year, we will continue to fully implement the Common Core Curriculum at all grade levels. During the spring of 2017, our 3rd – 6th-grade students will be taking the Smarter Balanced Assessment to assess the proficiency of the Common Core Standards. This assessment is done on the computer, and students are expected to explain their thinking and demonstrate their reasoning skills. We will update our parents throughout the school year on the implementation of the Common Core and SBAC Testing.
We truly value a close connection between school and home and encourage you to contact us with any concerns.
