By February 1 of each year, every school in California is required by state law to publish a School Accountability Report Card (SARC).The SARC contains information about the condition and performance of each California public school. Under the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) all local educational agencies (LEAs) are required to prepare a Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), which describes how they intend to meet annual school-specific goals for all pupils, with specific activities to address state and local priorities. Additionally, data reported in an LCAP is to be consistent with data reported in the SARC.
  • For more information about SARC requirements, see the California Department of Education (CDE) SARC web page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/ac/sa/.
  • For more information about the LCFF or LCAP, see the CDE LCFF web page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/aa/lc/.
  • For additional information about the school, parents/guardians and community members should contact the school principal or the district office.

DataQuest

DataQuest is an online data tool located on the CDE DataQuest web page at https://dq.cde.ca.gov/dataquest/ that contains additional information about this school and comparisons of the school to the district and the county. Specifically, DataQuest is a dynamic system that provides reports for accountability (e.g., test data, enrollment, high school graduates, dropouts, course enrollments, staffing, and data regarding English learners).

Internet Access

Internet access is available at public libraries and other locations that are publicly accessible (e.g., the California State Library). Access to the Internet at libraries and public locations is generally provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Other use restrictions may include the hours of operation, the length of time that a workstation may be used (depending on availability), the types of software programs available on a workstation, and the ability to print documents.

About Our School

De Anza Middle School is an award-winning school serving our surrounding community and helping children prepare for high school and beyond. Our hope is to become an exemplary school in the district and to serve our students, families, and our community with pride. We are preparing our students for the future by teaching them to be critical and creative thinkers, collaborative problem-solvers, and effective communicators. In recent years, De Anza received both state and national recognition through the Schools to Watch Award, the Title I Academic Achievement Award, and the California Gold Ribbon Award. We just received our three-year reauthorization as a "School to Watch."

Here at De Anza Middle school, we are proud of our Project-Based Learning (PBL) distinctive. This program aims to develop students who are creative, collaborative, and critical thinkers. Project-Based Learning also helps students actively engage in preparing themselves for the 21st century. Each student at De Anza is challenged to learn grade-level content through several comprehensive, interdisciplinary projects. These projects allow students to learn through the meaningful content and apply it to real-world scenarios. Students also get an opportunity to collaborate with peers and communicate what they have learned in the student exhibitions of work. Throughout the year, De Anza students get opportunities to exhibit their work and communicate their findings to authentic audiences.

Another important element of the instructional program at De Anza Middle School is "Crew." This is a specific time of the day that is focused on helping students learn about our "Habits of Success:" Perseverance, Respect & Responsibility, Integrity, Drive, and Excellence. Students receive specific lessons and experiences that help them to develop these habits, which we believe will guide them towards greater success in school and in life. In addition, students participate in reflection and goal-setting in a crew. Crew teachers know each of their students well, and this helps build a positive environment in which every student has an advocate. It is a key part of our positive school culture.

We also have a strong Positive Behavior Interventions and Support program, in which we share our Expectations for Behavior: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be a Person of Integrity. Students receive positive feedback from teachers and staff and can earn incentives for following the expectations. This has been a great addition to our positive school culture!

We also work closely with parents. De Anza Middle School strives to ensure that parents are kept informed of student progress. Parents are encouraged to sign up for SchoolLoop, a program which allows parents to monitor student academic progress on a daily basis. Through this online tool, parents are able to access grades and homework performance so they can be proactive and intervene when necessary. We keep parents informed of upcoming events through our Connect Ed program, Twitter, our monthly newsletter, and our school website. We also have a Coffee with the Principal meeting monthly, in which parents get a wide variety of information regarding how they can help support their child in school.

About Our School

De Anza Middle School is truly an amazing place where Project-Based Learning and Crew are helping students develop the skills they will need for success in academics and life. We are very proud of our accomplishments and we are excited to continue our positive trajectory.

Sincerely,

Dr. Adriana T. Gonzalez, Principal
