About Our School
This is my sixteenth year as an administrator with Bellflower Unified School District and each year brings excitement for learning. I have worked in four other BUSD schools, but am finding much fulfillment as the Principal at Frank E. Woodruff Elementary. Our interactive teaching incorporates Direct Interactive Instruction and focuses on student engagement throughout our instructional day. Students participate in lessons by being ready for random calling, engaging with partners, working with small groups, and volunteering to share. Teachers focus on building mastery of concepts through gradual release of responsibility and creating a community of learners. Our Response to Intervention program tailors instruction to the individual literacy needs of all students. Our Intervention Team consists of three highly qualified teachers and three Instructional Aides. Students are divided into small groups and literacy skills focus on letter identification, blending letters/sounds, decoding, academic vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and writing. I am also quite proud of the growth we have made using technology. We have interactive white boards in all classrooms, use mobile Chromebook carts, Transformer pads and LearnPads in our daily instruction. At this time, we are moving towards individual devices for all upper grade students. Teachers and students are quickly learning how to effectively use our new technology to maximize instructional time. I thoroughly enjoy serving our community and hope that our students will become educated, productive members of society through their experiences at Frank E. Woodruff Elementary.
