Arcata High School is committed to teaching our students citizenship values, and supports development of the whole person. The understanding and application of technology plays a significant role in instruction, curriculum, and assessment. Upon graduation, Arcata High School students will be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in all subject areas, and will have received guidance and assistance in making successful career choices. Students at Arcata High School benefit from the full involvement of parents, teachers, administrators, and community members in the educational process. At Arcata High School people are valued and individuals’ successes are celebrated.
Opportunities abound for students who wish to get involved in strong curricular and extra-curricular programs. The Arcata Arts Institute, ARMACK Orchestra, Pepperbox newspaper, and our College and Career Center are just a few of the shining stars on the Arcata High spectrum. Previous two-year graduates and this year's early admissions candidates have earned enrollment at many prestigious colleges of their choice including: MIT, Harvard, UCLA, Berkeley, Scripps, Stanford and a multitude of other great colleges across the country. Our student athletes take their sports and academics seriously as noted by the number of Fall sports teams being awarded the North Coast Section Scholastic Team Champions.
Arcata High School is located in the city of Arcata, a small college community in the heart of the redwoods. Arcata is a city adjacent to the Humboldt Bay in the northern region of Humboldt County. At the 2010 census, Arcata's population was 17,231. Arcata High School is one of two comprehensive high schools in the Northern Humboldt Union High School District.
